Welcome, dear reader!!
Kay is back! And you know what that means! We’ve got a wild, wild tale to get through! Here it is now. Let’s not wait for too long, one wild drama awaits us!
It was 6am in the Klutse household, which was a truly ungodly hour for the phone to ring.
Fred slowly stirred from sleep, a little annoyed at the sound of the phone. He felt pressure when he came to, the phone still ringing loudly. Of course, Sena was sprawled across his torso. The woman was a delight to him and wonderful in every way, so there had to be something wrong with her. Between her light snores and the crazy positions her tossing and turning landed her in, sleeping beside her had been an adventure. Thank goodness he was a deep sleeper.
“Good morning. Please, is this Mrs. Klutse?”
Fred tapped his wife, who still seemed halfway into sleep. He tapped her again with more intensity, and then dropped the phone on her ear. She threw an aimless hand in revenge and completely missed him.
“Hello? Mrs. Klutse?”
A fully groggy Sena grunted in response.
“My name is Linda, and I’m calling from Express Air. I’m sorry to wake you, but there seemed to be an issue with your booking. We need to reconfirm your details, please.”
Fred tried to lift her off him, but she slid up and spread herself over him, locking him down.
“Okay, what are you confirming?”
Fred tried again to move her, but she tightened her wrap on him.
“Please I need to confirm your passport number. Is it H-one-two-five-three-one-seven-two?”
“Mmm-hmm.”
“And the date of expiry is still December 2029?”
“Mmm-hmm.”
“Alright. We’ve sorted out the issue. Thank you so much for your patience.”
Sena grunted, drifting off into sleep again.
“We look forward to seeing you at 9am today.”
Sena immediately raised her head. “9am?” She started to check her email as she searched for her itinerary. Fred finally found the space to move her off him.
“Yes. Your flight today is at 9am.”
She found the itinerary and the first thing that greeted her eyes was the 9am departure time.
The time on her phone said 7:45am.
She shot up like a firecracker as Linda continued. “I see over here that you have not been able to check in online. Would you like for me to-”
Sena had already jumped off the bed and run into the shower like a headless chicken. Fred picked up the phone from the floor. “I’m sorry, she’s no longer in the room. Was there something else you needed from her?”
There was a pause, almost as though there was no one on the other end of the line.
“Hello? Is anyone there?”
“Sorry, sir. Yes, we’ve got everything we needed. We look forward to seeing your wife soon. Thanks again for choosing Express Air.”
The phone went dead.
Fred’s eyebrows were furrowed, as he sat up. “Why does that voice sound so familiar?”
*****
Sena looked like a mother who’d had to get up way too early to take her child to school. Her sweatpants did not match the hoodie, her hair was under a ball cap, and she hadn’t had time to do her makeup, which meant that only her eyebrows had gotten any kind of treatment. It was a good thing that Fred always kept a good pair of sneakers for her in his car, otherwise she’d have gone into the airport wearing one brand on her left foot and another brand on her right.
As they left the drive-through, Fred watched as she took giant gulps of the caramel frappe she had just gotten. “You’re the only one I know who can be late for a flight and still stop for coffee. I’ll be floored if you actually make it in.”
Sena took a breath after one of the big gulps of coffee. “If you’d let me drive rather than trying to be all macho, we’d be there by now.”
“And have you get into an accident? No thanks, lady. Thank God there was a spot five minutes away from the airport. They must have a lot of your kind running in like mad hatters on a daily basis.”
That earned Fred an undeserved hit on the shoulder.
“Tell me you at least checked in online.”
The silence that followed was all that Fred needed to know. “Babe…”
“F baby, lay off. I’m already stressing out because I’m late.”
“I remembered you saying the flight was at midday, which is why I was all chill this morning.”
Sena looked through her email again. “I swear I booked it for twelve thirty cos I knew I would be stressed if it was earlier. I don’t know how- See! I told you I’d booked it for- Goddamn. Wait. They changed it at 2am this dawn?”
“Baby, who is even awake at 2am to make changes to an itinerary?”
Sena shoved the phone in his face. “Mr. I-used-to-work-in-intelligence. Look! See? The email came at 2a.m!”
Fred took the final turn into the airport’s parking garage. It was so full that he had to drive around a bit as he looked at the phone. “Why is this one from a different email address?”
“Do I even know? Is your flight still on for 6pm?”
Fred finally found an open space, but it was in an almost-isolated area. “It should be. I checked in last night and confirmed it.” He parked, and then checked his watch.
Anyway, we’re here now and its…eight thirty! At least you only packed a carry-on, so your check-in should be smooth.”
Sena was already halfway out of the car. Fred popped the trunk open and got out of the car himself. Right before Sena could grab her bag, Fred blocked her. “You can be mad as all hell and the grave, but you’re still my wife.”
As Fred pulled the bag out, he suddenly found himself halfway inside the trunk. Before he could lift his head, Sena had lifted his legs and shoved them into the spacious trunk space. He raised his hands with a ‘what the hell’ look on his face, but then he saw the devious look on hers.
She climbed in, all five feet of her, and crawled slowly to his face. “Boy, you should know by now that it turns me on when you get all macho and gentlemanly.”
Fred looked up at her looming figure, which was beginning to lose her hoodie. “Baby, you’re late for your flight. This is not the time for-”
Sena closed the trunk, and took her bra off.
“Babe, your flight. You have to-”
Sena swarmed his lips with hers in a whirlwind, leaving him brainless for a few seconds. She then put a finger to his lips as she took her phone from the spot it had fallen into when she pushed him into the trunk. She showed him a screenshot. “I moved the flight again after I’d already rescheduled. This was all a smokescreen.”
“You bitch. What time’s your new flight?”
She leaned in as close to his ear as she could get and whispered, “Ten thirty.”
She began to dip into his mouth again, but then she found herself on her back. Fred moved and locked her lower body in-between his legs as he waved a finger in her face. “You know I like to punish naughty girls for trickery.”
Sena smiled up at him and pulled something out of her back pocket. It was a pair of handcuffs.
Fred smiled and snatched them from her. “You gon learn today!”
*****
“Last call for Gate 21 to Addis Ababa! Last call for Gate 21 to Addis Ababa! We will be closing the gate shortly. Last call for Gate 21 to Addis Ababa!”
Sena could easily have been mistaken for an elite track and field athlete as she sped through the airport with her carry-on. Her lovemaking session with Fred had gone a hell of a lot longer than she’d expected, and it really had been all her fault. She’d been extremely randy lately for reasons she didn’t even know.
The only reason she even got up was because they’d finally found a good spot for a break when she received an alert on her phone. She still got one more round in and made it an excellent one. Then she took off like a girl on the morning after a one-night stand. She was just about out of breath but then she saw the flight attendant announcing the last call. So, she kicked into overdrive and used her last bit of energy like it was the last leg of a relay.
*****
“We are closing the gate now for the flight to Addis Ababa!”
The attendant put the announcer down and was about to walk over to the gate when Sena got there, almost crashing into a pillar.
“Wait! Wait, I’m a passenger on this flight.”
Sena showed her e-ticket to the lady, who scanned it.
“Pleasure to see you make it, Mrs. Sena Klutse. I’m the lady you spoke to on the phone this morning. Linda. Remember?”
“Oh yes, I remember. You saved me. I ended up having to move my flight, which somehow worked.”
“Yes, another passenger changed his flight, and you just so happened to rebook at the right time.”
“Thank heavens for whoever that was.”
“Yes. Enjoy your flight, Mrs. Klutse.”
“Please, call me Sena. And thank you, Linda.”
Sena took her carry-on and disappeared into the jet bridge.
Linda then took out what looked like a walkie-talkie and said into it, “The queen is in the hatch. We are a go for the king.”
Then she walked onto the jet bridge, closing the door behind her.
Okay, this started nicely enough, with the Klutse couple showing us a freaky side. That ending suggests something is up…
